UNITED NATIONS DAY CELEBRATED AT THE
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
October 25, 2004
The
United Nations Day 2004 Flag Raising Ceremony was celebrated today, at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, East Hill Street. The
ceremony, which commenced at 11:00 am, was chaired by Mr. Carlton
Wright, Under Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The invocation was brought by Rev. Kendrick Forbes, Rector of St.
Francis Xavier Cathedral and Mr. Khalid Hassan and Miss Alexandria
Foulkes, Head Boy and Head Girl of St. John’s College, read the Preamble
of the United Nations Charter.
Music was provided by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Band and a special
selection was rendered by St. Thomas More School Choir, under the
direction of Mrs. Adelia Curtis-Major.
The key-note address was delivered by the Hon. Vincent Peet, M.P.,
Minister of Labour and Immigration & Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs
and the Public Services.

The highlight of the event was the Trouping of Colours, which was a
procession by members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Royal
Bahamas Defence Force, in which the flags of The Bahamas and the United
Nations were presented to the audience and then hosted.
Among those in attendance were the Hon. Alfred Sears, Education
Minister, Mr. Ron Pinder, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health,
members of the Diplomatic Corps and students from the College of The
Bahamas and R. M. Bailey High School.
A reception followed immediately in the gardens of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
