2007 UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME SASAKAWA PRIZE

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and The Nippon Foundation launched the new UNEP Sasakawa Prize to nurture environmental innovation and research on an annually changing theme. In 2007 the theme for which candidates will be eligible is climate change.

The prize is awarded every year to individuals with an established track record of achievement and the potential to make outstanding contributions to the protection and management of the environment consistent with UNEP’s policies and objectives. A copy of an information brochure, providing further details about the prize, has been attached for you review.

The Prize also acts an incentive for environmental efforts that are sustainable and replicable in the long-term. It recognizes innovation, groundbreaking initiatives and ideas, and extraordinary grassroots efforts from around the world. Our hope is that the $20,000 UNEP Sasakawa Prize will offer the financial support laureates need to build on their achievements.
