PRESS RELEASE
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with the
Organization of American States (OAS), announces the award of full
scholarships to six (6) Bahamian students to pursue undergraduate and
graduate studies at Universities in the United States, Canada and
University of West Indies (UWI)-Mona campus in Jamaica, beginning in
August 2005.
Full scholarships were awarded to Michael Adderley to pursue a
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering; to Dwight Adderley for a
Masters in International Relations; to Cindy Simon for a Masters in
History; to Darlene Cargill-Rolle for a Masters in Social Work; to
Liesel Wright for a Masters in Media Design; to Alvin C. Hepburn for a
Masters in Civil Engineering.
In an award ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on
Wednesday 3rd August 2005, the six OAS scholarship recipients
were presented with their award letters by the Honorable Alfred Sears,
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, and Mrs.
Melissa Miller-Deveaux, Acting Officer in Charge of the OAS Office to
The Bahamas.
The
Organization of American States has granted full scholarships to
Bahamian students every year since The Bahamas became a Member of that
Organization in 1982. The
Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas appreciates the financial
assistance given to Bahamian students, over the past twenty-three years,
to pursue higher education in subject areas that contribute to the
further development of The Bahamas.
OAS scholarship applications are accepted at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs each year. For
