Deadline date for OAS Scholarship is May 30th,
2008
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that
applications for the captioned fellowship at the Graduate and
Undergraduate levels, for the 2009-2010 will be accepted until 30
May, 2008.
Applications will be accepted in the fields of
study related to the OAS priority development areas of Social
Development and the creation of productive employment, Education,
Economic diversification and integration, trade liberalization and
market access, Scientific development and exchange & transfer of
Technology, Strengthening of democratic institution, Sustainable
development of tourism, Sustainable development and the environment,
culture.
The OAS scholarships for under-graduated and
graduate studies are granted for a maximum of two consecutive
academic year. For undergraduate studies, the scholarship can only
be applied to the last two years of studies, and is administered
under the self-placed mechanism. For graduate studies, the
scholarship can only be applied to two academic years, and is
administered under either the self-placed mechanism or the
OAS-placed mechanism. Under the self-placed mechanism, the applicant
applies directly for admission to a university of his/her choice and
then applies for an OAS scholarship through the National Liaison
Office of his/her sponsoring country (Minister of Foreign Affairs
Bahamas). Under the OAS-Placed mechanism, the applicant applies
directly to the OAS for a scholarship; listing his/her three top
choices of universities and the OAS will seek admission to the
universities listed on behalf of the applicant.
A maximum of US$30,000 has been established for
the total amount per scholarship per academic year, and includes
tuition, mandatory fees, books, subsistence allowance (living
expenses), health insurance and administrative costs.
Key Eligibility Requirements for Applicants:
Candidates are required to be citizens or
permanent residents in OAS member states
Produce transcript with a minimum GPA of
3.00, passport photos (3)
Current medical certificate
Three (3) statements of Recommendations from
Professors/Lectures,
Copies of Academic qualifications
Copies of passport pages one through
three along with visa page
Applicant must possess the language
competence to undertake studies in the country of study
Applicant must agree to return to reside
in the sponsoring country for a period of no less than
twenty-four months after completing of the program of study
covered by the scholarship if they are awarded an OAS
scholarship.
Applications can be obtained from the OAS website
at www.oas.org. Applications should be completed electronically and
printed out, or downloaded and filled in typewritten format. All
application forms must be presented in triplicate at the Ministry
along with the supporting documents.
