ORGANIZATION
OF AMERICAN STATES 2006 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Organization of American States
Bahamas Office announce today that, in June of this year, OAS Member
States, at the Thirty-Sixth Regular Session of the General Assembly of
the OAS held in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic, adopted a
resolution mandating an immediate and temporary pause in the awarding of
the new 2006 graduate and undergraduate scholarships, and also a review
of the Scholarship Programme. At that session, OAS Member States agreed
that given the expansion of the Scholarship Programme, a review was
timely in order to ensure, among other things, the “strict observance
of rules on competitiveness, transparency and ethics…”
It
is expected that the review will be completed by early Fall 2006, and
the Report submitted for appropriate consideration and action by the
Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) and the Permanent
Council of the Organization of American States.
All
students, who applied under the 2006 Scholarship programme, will be
advised whenever the scholarship programme resumes.
