Mitchell Extends Condolences for Indian Killings

 9 March 2006

Foreign Minister, the Hon. Fred Mitchell, has extended condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of India for the killings that occurred in the Indian city of Varanasi on Tuesday 7 March.

He raised the issue in a letter, which also addressed Indian Minister of External Affairs, the Hon. Anand Sharma, on a number of other matters.

“I also wish to take this opportunity to express the sincere regrets of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the Government and people of India for the recent killings which took place as a result of the bombings yesterday,” wrote Mr Mitchell.

As many as 15 people were killed and dozens more injured in two separate bomb blasts, which reportedly appear to have been coordinated.
