MINISTERS PEET AND MITCHELL VISIT US NAVAL CENTRE IN ANDROS

The Honourable Vincent Peet, Minister of Labour and Immigration and the Honourable Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service will travel to Central Andros on Wednesday, 20 October, 2004, to visit the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Centre (AUTEC) operated by the United States Navy.  The Centre, located at the edge of the 6,000-foot drop-off of the Tongue of the Ocean, is involved in the research of submarine and anti-submarine warfare.  It employs over 400 US personnel and almost 200 Bahamians. 

Accompanying the ministerial team will be Mr. Kenyatta Gibson MP, Chairman of the House Select Committee on Foreign Affairs and Ms. Jerusa Dean, official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

In the evening, the group will host a community meeting to discuss the relationship between the Central Andros community and AUTEC.
