Minister Mitchell Travels To Bermuda For General Elections

Foreign Affairs Minister, the Honourable Fred Mitchell, travels to Bermuda tonight, July 22, 2003, to attend the last set of activities leading up to the General Elections that are slated to be held on Thursday, July 24th 2003.

Over the years, the ruling Party in Bermuda, the Progressive Labour Party (PLP), has had a close relationship with the ruling Progressive Liberal Party here in The Bahamas; and Minister Mitchell is expected to join Premier Jennifer Smith in celebrating winning a second term in office over the United Bermuda Party (UBP).

In the last elections on November 9, 1998, the PLP won 26 seats in the House of Assembly and 54% of the votes, while the UBP won 14 seats and 44% of the votes.
