MODEL UNITED NATIONS SESSION (MUNS)
MONDAY, 19 MARCH 2007
RADISSON CABLE BEACH CONVENTION CENTREThe Tenth Annual Model United Nations Session (MUNS)
is scheduled for Monday, 19 March 2007 and will be
held at the Radisson Cable Beach Convention Centre from
4:00 pm –
8:00 pm.
Each year Rotary Clubs of New Providence and
Abaco, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosts
this worthy programme involving high schools from Nassau, Grand
Bahama, and Long Island.
The primary purpose of MUNS is to expose high
school students to the workings of the United Nations by simulating
the actual United Nations and allowing students to discuss current
world issues. However, MUNS not only involves young people in the
study and discussion of global issues, but also encourages the
development of skills that will be useful throughout students’
lives, such as public speaking, problem solving, consensus building,
conflict resolution and compromise and cooperation.
This year’s competition has some fifteen schools
which will represent various Countries from around the world by
presenting their Countries’ foreign policy stance on the topic,
"Are sanctions effective in punishing Countries that violate
international norms?’.
The grand prize for the MUNS is a floating trophy
and an all-expense paid trip to New York in September, to coincide
with the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ address during the General
Debate of the United Nations General Assemble Regular Session.
The topic chosen for discussion this year is very
timely and will lead to rich debate, so please join the Rotary Clubs
and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this remarkable event.
