JAPAN GIVES TO NEMA

September 29, 2004

Accompanied by Honorary Consul to Japan, Mr Basil Sands, Mr. Takehiko Wajima, First Secretary and Director of Economic Coorporation of the Embassy of Japan in Jamaica and Mr. Kumagai Nobuhiro, Resident Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JAIA), paid a courtesy call on Under Secretary, Philip Miller at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, 29th September 2004.  

Mr. Miller, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ representative on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), was presented with a Diplomatic Note indicating the Government of Japan’s emergency aid support to the Government of The Bahamas, in response to The Bahamas’ request for assistance after the devastation by Hurricane Jeanne of the islands of Grand Bahamas and Abaco. 

The emergency aid material given through JICA is worth approximately U.S$50,000, and includes the following:- 

Ø      15       - Tents  (up to 10 – 12 persons)

Ø      15       - Generators (60HZ 120V)

Ø      15       - Cord Reels

Ø      30       - Plastic Sheets

Ø      1000   - Blankets

Ø      600     - Water Tanks 

Mr. Miller accepted the document, with thanks, from both Messrs.Wajima and Kumagai, on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and noted that the materials would be presented later in the afternoon to NEMA officials.
