Service Appointments

The Ministry of Foreign affairs and
the Public Service is pleased to announce the following Foreign Service
Appointments:

Mr. Jack Thompson, former Chief
Passport Officer has been
appointed Deputy High Commissioner at The Bahamas High Commission, Ottawa,
Canada. A career civil servant for some 23 years, Mr. Thompson
brings to the post a wealth of experience. After a successful
career as an Agricultural Science teacher, which culminated in his
appointment as Principal of the L.M. Major High school in South
Andros, Mr. Thompson was appointed a Family Island Commissioner and
served in a number of districts including Rum Cay and San Salvador;
Exuma and Ragged Island; Bimini and the Berry Islands; Inagua and
Mayaguana; and North Abaco. For the last five years he has
been Chief Passport Officer in Nassau.
On Wednesday, October 29, the staff of the Passport Office along
with Senior Managers of the Ministry, family members and friends, hosted Mr.
Thompson to a farewell luncheon.

Ms. Sandra Carey, a 21-year
veteran in the Foreign Service, has been posted to The Bahamas
Consulate General at Miami as Consul. Ms. Carey spent the last 4
years at the Permanent Mission of The Bahamas to the United nations
in New York, as Second Secretary/Consul, where she covered all the
Committees at the United Nations.

Lieutenant Commander Clifford
Scavella succeeds Jack Thompson as Chief Passport Officer at the
Passport Office, Nassau. Lt. Cmdr. Scavella is on secondment
to the Ministry of foreign Affairs from the Royal Bahamas Defence
Force, having spent the last 2½ years as Second Secretary/Consul at
The Bahamas Embassy, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. An officer of some
24 years experience, Lt. Cmdr. Scavella is married and has two
children.
