Damage to dock; damage is 2-3feet wide and deep. Electricity
has been restored to the island. Drinking water and can good are
needed. Called to notify NEMA that they are in readiness for the
arrival of the damage assessment teams. They have started to
remove debris. MAJOR CONCERN: Main Road leading into Main dock has
a crack 100-150ft long, 2-3 feet wide, 2-3 ft deep. Working with
local administrator and engineer to assess the area. Abraham Bay
reports that current conditions are fair. Minimal damage, lights
& Telephone are restored. Will continue to contact NEMA.
Returning to normalcy, road separated. Needs water, canned foods,
roofing/building supplies, home phones. Winds down, airstrip in
good condition and serviceable. The Water and Sewerage Corp. is
awaiting Damage Assessment report from their Operators at
Mayaguana. |

Windy conditions; winds 30-40mph.Flooding of
roads, minor damages to High School, damage to resident homes,
major and minor damage to Government Clinic. The Airport is good
and is making arrangements for the Damage Assessment Team to
arrive. Dock is washed away; flooding, fallen trees, debris from
sea surge. Electricity is on; water is on. No phone system - poles
down in Chester Bay. Light damage to clinic roof. Airport is
opened, 50% of clinic roof is damaged. Will stay in contact with
NEMA. The Water and Sewerage Corp. is awaiting Damage Assessment
Report from the Operators on Acklins and Crooked Island. Weather
conditions are good, minor damage to Airport and schools, water
supplies are low and the phone lines are down, no major damage to
government buildings. In Acklins community all is well, the
community is in search of a missing man not associated with
hurricane Frances. Conditions remain the same, phone systems down. |

Weather is calm. Power is on and off at times. There are fallen
trees and flooding. Persons are cleaning up as we speak. (system
is down NEMA is continuing to try and contact - 8:20am) NEMA
Continues to try and make contact for an up-date. Airport at
Stella Maris is flooded. Dock damage at Salt Pond & Simms,
local calls only, road erosion. Electricity & water is
operational, clinics in good shape, minimum damage at schools. Dr.
Ameeal from Deadman’s Cay indicated that Christine Cartwright
age 76 is stable at this time but is requesting that she under go
tests in Nassau ASAP. According to the doctor the patient needs to
be air lifted to Nassau. PHA Paul Newbold has been advised and is
currently addressing the issue and will inform NEMA of action
taken. According to the Administrator on Long Island everything
remains the same. |

Weather conditions improving. Water supplies restored, limited
damage. (System is down NEMA is continuing to try and contact -
8:20am) NEMA is working to get up-dated information. The Water and
Sewerage Corp. has confirmed that the water supply system is
operational on the island. At 10:50 am in Exuma minor roof damages
minimum damage to government docks in Staniel Cay. Four
Seasons Resort is still closed the airport and the roads are okay,
awaiting assessment from Farmer’s Cay. Administrator Hart
confirmed that everything is back to normal; only crops and
vegetables are damage. The Airport at Staniel Cay is now open.
Administrator Hart’s roof lost some shingles, no apparent
structural damage to schools; they could open Wednesday according
to District Education Officers. Farmer’s Cay lost most of their
crop, packing home roof damage. |

There are about 100 persons with home damage; five family homes
are unlivable. 2 government schools are damaged; some small damage
to government buildings; some flooding in areas. Power lines,
phone lines down, no loss of life. They will be having a Town
Meeting tomorrow. Current conditions are calm. Approximately 100
homes are damaged 5 Families are homeless, Minimum damage to
government buildings, both primary & high School damaged. No
communication with Rum Cay. Roads are accessible, No electricity
except for crockburn town; United Estates Hardest Hit. Possible
need for drinking water will up-date NEMA. Shelters closed, power
in Cockburn Town restored; 8 houses in United Estates completely
destroyed; 1 house in the Creek destroyed; 60 houses partially
damaged; water damage; 1 house destroyed & 7 partially damaged
in Sugarloaf; damage to roofs on 5 houses & 1 church in Long
Bay; 3 houses totally damaged, 8 moderately damaged in Coburn
Town. 80% of Club Med’s roof is moderately damaged; an estimated
$60,000 damage on Bahamian Field Station; water on; both schools
extensively damaged. No report on Rum Cay. The Water and Sewerage
Corp. is awaiting Damage Assessment Report from their Operators at
San Salvador and Rum Cay. No changes. Airport runway strip
lights operational for night flights. Mr. Johnson confirmed runway
lights operational and that minister’s flight had landed
safely.. Leading Seaman P.J. Hamilton contacted EOC via Satellite
Phone and stated that everything remains the same. Clinic in
United Estate has a small hole in the roof it has level one
damages, it is forty percent level two, forty percent level three,
ten percent level one, two percent no damage and two percent level
four. In Cockburn Town there is level two damages, there is some
leaking and electrical problems that may cause a potential fire
hazard if not corrected. The C.O.B field station has level two up
to level three damages. Raw sewerage has flooded a house and has
settled in the yard, in urgent need of environmental health
personnel. |

Winds in excess of 100 mph; debris in roads, no electricity. No
land base phone contact with Spanish Wells, N. Eleuthera and S.
Eleuthera Fiber Lines Broken. Fallen Trees. General flooding,
structural damage. (NEMA is continuing to make additional
information) Residential damage, Jane Bay Dock is underwater
making it impossible to travel to mainland. Police residence had
to be evacuated. Glass window bridge is closed. Winds and rain,
Queen’s Highway flooded, North Eleuthera can’t access South
Eleuthera. CDERA flew over school on Current Island and saw
damages to school roof; lots of roof damage on Spanish Wells and
Harbour Island. |

Phillip Bethel Shopping Center major damage, roof blown off.
Lawrence Griffin Esso Service Station gas pumps and roof blown
away. No communications by land phone, cellular phone. Police
Station (Governors Harbour) under 10ft of water evacuated, about
300 people had to be evacuated to various shelters. No access to
airport in Governor’s & Rock Sound (flooded). Coffins are
floating in the streets of Hatchet Bay. Main water line damage,
telephone off, electricity restored to most of Central Eleuthera,
extensive roof damage, flooding, school store room roof blown off.
Airport in good condition, Workers House shelter was damaged,
clinic in good condition. Situation remains the same at
Governor’s Harbour. Mr. Clarke a resident of Palmetto
Point all utilities are up and everything is back to normal. Roads
are clear.
Made contact with the Police and informed them of the arrival
of Minister Pratt and to inform the Social worker that she wanted
her to meet her at the airport. |

weather was clearing up. An initial assessment revealed that Green
Castle & Rock Sound school roof damaged, fallen trees, damage
to roofs, Princes Cay damaged, water, electricity, telephones
down, power lines down. Roads accessible, airport in good
condition, minimum damage to government buildings. Will continue
to up-date NEMA. Telephone & electrical services restored in
some areas. Shelters closed; lines down; roof damages;

female with fractures to her hand, needs further assessment
requiring airlift, an A&E physician will evaluate by telephone
to determine if she could take a regular domestic flight tomorrow

Overcast breezes. Poles are down, trees down, flooding, no
injuries, no electricity. Reporting slight rain, slight breeze.
Preliminary Damage Assessment indicates that low lying areas has a
little flooding, fallen trees, fallen lights in Morgan Bluff Oil
Barge Broke from morning and ran aground in the cove. Airport is
down. Administrator Christy reports that winds are still high.
Everyone is well in Lowe Sound Bar has little flooding, dock will
open tomorrow, major road passable. Mastic Point Utility Poles
Down. Powers on in Nichollas Town & Off in other settlements.
Winds 30-40 miles on the coast. Will Contact NEMA with update in
the next 2 hours. Road to Reds Bay flooded. Some areas of the
wellfields are flooded and will not be re-opened until deemed safe
by the electricians of the Water and Sewerage Corporation. At the
Morgan Bluff Terminal a buoy has to be restored prior to full
re-establishment of the tanker operations. Weather conditions are
good. There is some debris & roof damage, power lines and
telephone lines are down. Damage assessment of North Andros &
The Berry Islands. All shelter structures are in tact. Occupied
shelters in North Andros are: Church of Christ Nicholl’s Town
(10 Persons), Methodist Church Mastic Point (5 persons), Church of
God of Prophecy Mastic Point (20 persons), Mt. Sinai Baptist
Church Mastic Point (10 persons), Barc Training Centre, Barc (8
persons), New Salem Baptist Church, Red Bays (50 persons), Church
of God, Bullocks Harbour (34 persons). Damages on the Island
includes light structural damage to several roofs, guttering to
Administration building blown off, water flowing to homes, trees
down, Lowe Sound primary school water logged, erosion of
shoreline, debris in the road, destruction of bearing trees and
plants, electrical pole down across the creek, telephone lines are
down, no power, but potable water is flowing. Mastic Point North
and South damage to a few roads, BEC poles down, dock severely
damaged, no potable water, no electricity, slight erosion of beach
in the North. Barc Community slight damage to a few roofs, little
flooding in areas, severe destruction to farms, no electricity.
Johnson Hill and Conch Sound a few BEC and Batelco lines down,
Miller Road along shoreline is impassable little damage to roofs.
Morgan’s Bluff one roof flew off building, Crown Oil barge
aground, one structure down at Regatta Village, main V.I.P Lounge
at Regatta Village lots shingles off roof, lots of debris, no
potable water, no electricity. Red Bays road is impassible as a
result of storm surges. Bullocks Harbour structural damage to
eighteen roofs, BEC plant lost its roof, electricity lines down,
no potable water, 54 homes with missing shingle, two homes lost
entire roof, a resident’s home sustained structural damages.
Government buildings, consisting of the All Age School suffered
roof damage, plywood and shingles missing, the Administrative
complex on the hill has a damaged roof, missing shingles and
plywood raised, cracks in the wall and damage to the drip caps.
The dock at Bullocks Harbour; there was major damage to the
building at the dock building and major erosion due to the heavy
surge. Recommendations: Restore damaged roofs, repair BEC
building, the administrative building and the school, urgent
repairs to the Public Dock in Bullock’s Harbour, relief to
farmer’s who lost crops, supply hurricane shutters for the
Administrative building. Electricity has been restored to approx.
90%

Administrator Christy reports winds still high; trees are down,
utility poles down. Everyone is safe, roof on BEC is off. Will
continue to update NEMA. No running water, no electricity, trying
to get power up by morning. Airport in San-Andros is closed once
weather permits, it will be open 8am tomorrow. No loss of life,
cleanup efforts already in progress. A detailed report will be
faxed on Monday September 6, 2004. All in order apart from minor
damages; most of residents were evacuated before the storm. Well
water in Reo Bay was contaminated. Minister Pete carried water to
Red Bay. Bullocks Harbour needs water and sternos urgently.

New Providence Community Center’s generator will not shut
down. House in Perpall Tract, Brigton Rd. needs structural
assessment. 29 persons at Salvation Army, Mackey St. Milo Butler
& Sons on Peach St. had a portion of roof blown off. Mr. Perry
Duncombe of #58 John Rd. off Market St. experiencing trouble with
his electrical line since power has been restored; he stated that
he his getting electrical shocks when touching picked up and
assessed by someone at the hospital, as they would determine what
to do with him. Arawak Cay Tankering Operations: The two (2)
tankers are in the harbour with approx. 4.5 millions gallons of
water. A boat that sunk in the harbour and has prevented the
berthing of the tankers at the Arawak Cay Terminal but this has
been resolved temporarily. Tanker discharge at the Arawak Cay
Terminal should commence at approx. 7PM today. Contacted Control
Tower at NIA reports that flights have left for Eleuthera. No
contact with Abaco or Freeport. There will be no domestic
flights until tomorrow, there are US and international flights
arriving and departing today. Parking facilities are operational.
Officers continue to make checks of buildings, homes and other
reconnaissance patrols at this time. The following persons need
assistance an elderly lady in James Road (393-5931) & a female
in Dunmore Street (341-1967) & a female in Dunmore Street
(341-1967, 322-5509). Mr. Langton Sawyer called to lend assistance
of two chainsaw to RBDF contact 325-1772 or 325-1891. |

In Central Abaco strong winds and torrential rain. In South
Abaco cell phones and land phones are down; there is no
electricity, contacted NEMA via satellite phone. In North Abaco
part of the roof at the Government, which was used as the EOC,
collapsed and caused minor injuries. There are no utilities in
North Abaco. South Abaco: Sandy Point has flooding and
property damage to roofs. No loss of life. Trees down, partial
power; police antenna down; school roof damage. A lot off roofs
blown off in the Crossing Rock area. (10:10 AM According to the
ministry of works there have been several persons injured in a
roof collapse in Coopers Town Clinic; this is being verified by
PHA and RBDF, they are working with Zane Thomas and US Coast Guard
to see if assistance can be provided if necessary) Spoke with Cay
Mills Preliminary Damage Assessment indicates that Treasure Cay
has Major Damage to buildings. Major loss of boats. Tremendous
amount of flood line communities on the Cays from Guana Cay to
Little Harbour. Phone lines are down; Electric poles down. North
Abaco is reporting no electricity or telephone. Clinic in Cooper’s
town a portion of the roof has collapsed. Major flooding, Major
structural damage to residences. Administrator is going to make
additional assessments and will contact NEMA with that
information. Paul Newbold with PHA notified NEMA that Med EVAC
would take injured persons to PMH on Sunday Sept 5th.
OFDA will assist. Mrs. Sands notified NEMA that Dundas Town,
Murphy Town and Marsh harbour are all under water. No electricity,
no phone. BEC personnel are headed to Sandy Point to assess
damages. Supt. Russell notified NEMA that current conditions in
the area is overcast; they have some flooding. Marsh Harbour
station received minor damages mostly water. Crown Haven station
has roof damage Marsh Harbour o/c residence & Insp. Fox Town
& Crown Haven Police residence report damage requiring
officers re-locate. No deaths. 1 minor injury. Requesting Sat
phone number for northern command center. Abaco disaster committee
will meet at 3pm to assess overall damages. Abaco Police is
investigating the situation and will contact NEMA. Two
persons are being sent for medical evacuation from Cooper’s Town
by US Coast Guard 1st patient a 73 yr. Old male with
excessive bleeding & a 76 yr. old female with minor seizures.
The P.S Mr. Thompson will contact Foreign Affairs to make
arrangements with the US Embassy for authorization. At 12:35 pm
Marsh Harbour reports that there was no damage to the clinic at
Dundas Town, there was some flooding to several homes, two nurses
had to be evacuated from their homes due to the flooding. The
73yr.old patient is prepped to be airlifted. There is a need for
blood/plasma and medical personnel. In Cooper’s Town there is
flooding, telephone and electrical lines are down, the water
supply is down, schools in Treasure Cay & Cooper’s Town
sustained damages to the roof, windows and doors, some homes have
minor damages, Cooper’s Town has sustained extensive damages,
the front of the government clinic has collapsed, a private dock
was damaged, the roads are not blocked, but there are trees in the
roads, there are damages at two shelters, the airport is cleared
and the landing sight for the helicopter is cleared. The clinic
needs the following a box of each I/V fluid, lactated ringers,
normal saline, ½ strength saline, cervical collars, splints for
legs and arms, ankle brace, gauges & gauges dressings.
Treasure cay airport is open; Marsh Harbour airport may be closed
for a few days; Need satellite # for RBDF contingency command; no
reliable reports on damage in cays; power lines down; wellfields
underwater, cannot restore service until water level subsides. Due
to the deterioration in the pts. Conditions at Cooper’s Town and
the fact that Air Ambulance have resumed their flight arrangements
with US Coast Guard was cancelled. Air Ambulance expected arrival
to Cooper’s Town is 5:30pm. Crown Haven, Fox Town & Marsh
Harbour still under water; Marsh Harbour airport closed; request
assistance with drinking water; electricity restored. Flight left
Marsh Harbour with 73-year-old patient en route to Nassau. The
73-year-old patient from Coopers Town arrived in Nassau at 6:40pm;
he is presently being transported to PMH. All wellfield
operations south of Marsh Harbour are reported to be in service.
Operations north of Marsh Harbour to be accessed on 6th
Sept. 2004. Reverse Osmosis operations on Grand Cay and Moores
Island also to be accessed. Marsh Harbour wellfield is partially
and presently operating at 50%. Sandy Point Airport is now open;
Moore’s Island Airport is open. Moore’s Island requests water,
garbage bags & a chainsaw. In Crossing Rock there was roof
damages and flooding, in Sandy Point there is roof damages
throughout the island, the government building in roof has blown
off, there are damages to three churches, houses have sustained
water damages, the administrative building has water damages, BEC
has restored power, the telephone lines are up, but the cable
lines are down in South Abaco areas Little Harbour boats are under
water, roofing damages and flooding, Cherokee Sound roof damages,
flooding in homes, trees are down in the road, but roads are not
blocked, Bahama Palm Shores roof damages and flooding, Casuarina
Point roof damages and flooding all areas in the south request
chainsaw. Sandy Point clinic needs supplies (antacid tablets,
calpol suspension, stet scopes, a wagon to use as an ambulance)
the clinic has sustained major damages and flooding and is not
operational; the clinic will be relocated at James Dean building
by the end of the weak. US flights are now going to Cherokee Air.
Immigration and Customs are also relocated in Cherokee Air. Marsh
Harbour terminal is closed due to flooding. ESF coordinated
dispatch of assessment team to Grand Cay. Dr. Imara, Nurse
Charlene Bain, Bruce Walker, Ton Vlugman, Gerald Sawyer and
Michelle Grant make up the team.

Administrator King notified NEMA of Rescue Effort being
conducted at Home's Rock and West End due to flooding. He will
up-date NEMA within the hour. CONDITIONS: Powerful winds and
rains; flooding in West End; electricity poles are down and there
is no electricity as well as no phones. Contacted NEMA via
cellular phone. Roof blown off from barracks at Hanna Hill.
Fishing Hole completely flooded. Residents of Queens Cove had to
be evacuated. Weather personnel had to be evacuated. Will up-date
NEMA when situation changes. Mr. Philip Russell of Bight, West
End, believed to be in his 80’s premises collapsed, he has not
been found, search continues. Chief Superintendent B. Rahming,
RBPF report at around 9:20am the body of Jeffery Green age 25-40
years, was found face down in front of his Bootle Bay home in 3 ft
of water. He appeared to have drowned trying to swim to safety.
Police are still investigating. At 4pm unable to obtain PHA
Williams to verify. Evacuated persons from West Bootle Bay &
Homesrock, they were sent to Mary’s Shelter. Some persons went
to their families. The dome collapsed in the government clinic
injuring 1 ambulance driver, he received medical assistance.
Bethel Baptist church roof collapsed, 200 people were relocated to
the school next door. The school roof has minor damages & is
being monitored. The roof of a sixplex building roof was blown
off; the family inside received minor cuts & bruises, was
treated & released. From the clinic. A young lady with 7
occupants roof collapsed. They were relocated to Zion Baptist
Church. Weather is getting worst. Rain is coming in on the south
side of the government clinic. Phone lines are still up, they are
using generator power. Majority of the island’s utilities are
still down, however the Police Command Centre emergency number is
operational. Weather is fine. ACP Greenslade and a contingent of
police officers along with other concerned personnel continue to
access damage and render assistance

Windy 80 mph; Airport under 6 feet of water. Queens Cove under
water; personnel taken to higher ground. West End and Queens Cove
have no communication. Requesting for residence to evacuate
low-lying area and to proceed to higher grounds. Maurice Moore
Primary has 150 persons in shelter. A few trees down; no power.
North and South Bahamia along with Trip circle are now
experiencing high water rise now in process of relocating to Huge
Campbell Shelter. Weather conditions are still poor. Reports of
Roof damage, trees down, electrical lines down. Extensive flooding
at the airport. 1200 Person in shelter; still experiencing strong
winds. Will do damage assessment as soon as weather improves.
Still evacuating from low lying areas due to extensive flooding.
The administrator, assisted by Police and residence, is organizing
evacuation. 500 people were evacuated from Hawksbill area.
Administrator Williams is trying to contact Administrator D. Cash
in North Abaco. Administrator Williams reports that they are
continuing to experience strong winds and rains. One shelter
(Calvary Temple) roof collapsed persons we’re transferred to St.
George’s Gym. Electricity is out, fallen trees, and flooding. No
communication at this time with E. Grand Bahamas will continue to
try. The command center has been moved due to structural damage.
Roof at Eight Mile Rock Clinic collapsed, 1 driver injured, also
200 persons were evacuated from Lucayan Towers. Requesting
emotional support from NEMA. Will update NEMA in the next hour.
There is some leaking in the roof at the hospital, A power
utility pole fell on the roof of the ICU and cause other damage to
other parts of the hospital. The dome of the clinic broke causing
minor injury to one staff, he is fine. Other parts of Freeport
rooftops were blown off; Freeport Anglican School is being used as
a Medical Center for persons needing medical assistance.
Still experiencing hurricane force winds & rain, there is
flooding at the Batelco building and some damage, further is
assessment will be made. Shelters still open with over 1200
people; no power; no water; telephones being restored; a number of
homes damaged; airport open as of 6th Sept. 2004 for
emergency flights only; critical shortage of food and water;
harbour not operational; hospital & clinic operational; roads
accessible; 31 persons in Sweetings Cay. CDERA flew over
Grand Bahama; still experiencing tropical storm winds, observed
roof damage; no visible power lines down; lots of standing water.
Around 1:35pm today a Bertram Davis age 88 was at the Freeport
Anglican High Shelter when he appeared to have suffered a heart
attack and died. Assistant Commissioner Elison Greenslade and a
contingent of officers are making damage assessments at this time.
The police residence at Peel St. was totally destroyed; officers
relocated to Trip Circle. 6 coffins were floating in floodwaters
in Hunters; police officers along with concerned residence
recovered them. They are now at T&M Mortuary. Mr. M O Russell
the Aeronautical Operational Officer informed NEMA that the
airport in Freeport is open only to NEMA Flights. Access from
Freeport to West End is nearly impossible due to floodwater. Prime
Minister and Representatives from NEMA are currently touring area.
The PM and party left West End, headed to Eight Mile Rock. All
communications at Police stations on that island are just about up
and running. An assessment was complied and NEMA representatives
will update EOC in New Providence on arrival. Initial Assessment
Team reports: Estimated that 95% of all homes/businesses in West
End sustained some damage. 45% are either unusable (127) or
destroyed (60). Based on sampling of 135 homes in Eight Mile Rock
project approx. 2500 homes are either unusable (1700) or destroyed
(600). Spraying for mosquitoes due to flooding is required. Food
and water urgently needed. Rand Memorial requires water for 100
persons & key equipment. West End Primary School sustained
severe damage to roof; Martin Town School may have to be
condemned; Fish Fry totally destroyed. Old Bahama Bay pier and
building sustained light damage. West End seawall in good
condition, Artist Neeley dock useable, but 70% of pier &
fingers needs to be rebuilt. Follow-up assessments are required.
Cunard Bethel established as NEMA lead & Greenslade as Chief
Police contact. Brad Wildgoose is assessment contact along with
one police sergeant who was also trained. No power, no water, the
telephone systems improving. The water should be received by
Wednesday. Administration Williams needs air transport from Grand
Bahama to Abaco on P.M.’s order to assess conditions at Abaco.
Reported to Cabinet that water should be operational by tomorrow;
will not be fit for drinking and cooking until further notice. ESF
contacted Red Cross to advise OFDA of supplies arrival in Grand
Bahama. Memo was also sent. Coordinated flight to Freeport –
Relief supplies and supplies for Rand Memorial Hospital. Faxed
Jamaica electrical team list to Mr. Cunard Bethel in Freeport.
Made contact with Grand Bahama and confirmed that the
administrator in Abaco was made aware of Minister Wisdom and
Minister Grey’s arrival and have made the appropriate
arrangements. In Queen’s Cove 400 utility poles are down. There
was massive amount of homes destroyed due to flooding. Water was
up to 7ft. in some homes. Water, kerosene lamps, bread, can items

shelters. Only damage reported at this time is a damaged roof on
Batelco Building in Bullock Harbor Caved in. Will continue to

are up, homes lost shingles and roofs, the Batelco building lost
its roof, minor flooding in some areas, some sea walls destroyed,
erosion at sea, Airport Terminal building flooded, runway in tact,
government building, and dock are okay, some leak in

normal, Grand Bahama PHA still in disaster mode. No emergency
runs. Action to be taken: Mobilized and ready to transport 400
five gallon water, 69 one gallon water, food
perishable/nonperishable, roofing supply is due Wednesday 8
September 2004. Meeting for the assessment team is going on at the
PHA Corporate Office. Eight Mile Rock clinic partially open, Grand
Bahama Health Services (all clinics) are closed, roofing is being
completed at PMH, BEC is restoring electricity at PMH. |

The islands with RO plants should have good water. These
islands include Inagua, Exuma (Black Point & Farmers Cay),
Bimini, and South Eleuthera. Waiting for reports from the
following islands: San Salvador, Acklins and Andros (waiting to
hear, should be okay), Mayaguana, Berry Island, Cat Island (should
be okay), Abaco and Eleuthera have multiple systems and will take
time to assess. Will up-date NEMA in the next 2 hours.
North Andros/Arawak Cay Tankering Operations: 2 tankers are in
the harbour with approx. 4.5 million gallons of water. A boat that
sank in the harbour has prevented the berthing of tankers at
Arawak Cay Terminal has been temporarily resolved. Tanker
discharge should commence at the terminal at 7pm today.
North Andros Wellfields are flooded and will not be re-opened
until deemed safe by electricians.
Morgan’s Bluff Terminal’s buoy has to be restored prior to
full reestablishment of tanker operations.
New Providence Wellfields: The corporation is working with BEC
to restore power.
Production was re-established this afternoon at Consolidated
Water Reverse Osmosis Facility.
The corporation maintained water supply throughout New
Providence prior to and during the hurricane. All supplies are
being chlorinated as usual but the standard procedure after a
storm of boiling all water for potable use is critical.
The corporation would greatly appreciate the assistance of the
general public in reporting any leaks they observe at 325-0505.
One of two tankers previously moored at the Arawak Cay
Terminal has discharged and is presently on the way back to Morgan’s
Bluff for refilling, The Dolphin tanker is out of service. Fifty
percent of the wellfields in North Andros are operational, the
other half of the wellfields are will not be re-commissioned until
deemed safe by electricians. In Morgan’s Bluff a buoy has to be
restored prior to full re-established of the tanker operations A
personnel is enroute to North Andros to take remedial actions. In
New Providence the corporation is working with BEC to restore
power to New Providence Wellfields. Storage levels are now
extremely low; therefore supplies will be rationed as follows over
the next 3-5 days: 9pm – 6am and 10:00 –4:00pm daily. The
Corporation is urging residents of New Providence to implement
water conservation measures until further notice. Also residents
are urged to boil all water for potable use as it is an after
storm procedure. The Corporation is requesting that any leaks be
reported at 325-0505. There has been no major damage to
Corporation sewerage infrastructure as a result of the hurricane.
Water supply on the following islands are operational: Inagua,
Long Island, Exuma & the Cays, Central & South Andros and
parts of North Andros, the Berry Islands and San Salvador. The
Corporation is awaiting damage assessment reports on the following
Islands: Acklins, Crooked Island, Mayaguana, Rum Cay, Cat Island,
Eleuthera, Abaco & the Cays, Bimini and Grand Bahama. At
this time tankers in North Andros/Arawak Cay are in operation,
there is no change at the North Andros Wellfields, the buoy at
Morgan’s Bluff are being replaced, at the New Providence
Wellfields personnel are working closely with BEC to restore
power, Water supplies will be rationed until Sep. 10, 2004
the public is advised to implement water conservation measures
until further notice. Power has been restored to all pumping
stations except Arawak Cay. Works with BEC is continuing at the
sewerage corporation. Water systems are operational in Inagua,
Mayaguana, Long Island (Deadman’s Cay, Simms is partially
operational), San Salvador (partially operational, working with
BEC to restore power to the wellfields, Exuma & the Cays,
Eleuthera (South & Central, transmission across the Glass
Window Bridge is damaged should be operational by Sept. 8, 2004
Bogue Wellfield supply is limited due to a lack of electrical
power), Andros (Central & South Andros, parts of North Andros),
Abaco (South of Marsh Harbour operational, Marsh Harbour supply is
limited to 3 hours in the morning and 4 hours during the evening).
Awaiting damage assessment reports from the following Islands
Acklins, Crooked Islands, Cat Island, Bimini and Grand Bahama via
Grand Bahama Utilities Co.

Abaco: No recent report, experiencing high winds.
Bimini: South feeder out, experiencing high winds.
North Andros: Some supplies are off (poles down in the
Mastic Point area). It is projected that supplies would be on this
afternoon.
Central Andros: Minimal damage to power station. All
supplies are on except Cargill Creek & Berhing Point. It is
projected that supplies would be on by this evening.
South Andros: Supplies are on. Minimal damage to power
station roof.
Exuma: No receipt of reports.
Marsh Harbour and Dundas Town areas have had loss of
electricity due to fallen poles and power lines, but supply to
major shelters and the clinics have been restored as of Saturday
night. Sandy Port, Moore’s Island & the Cays, have been
inaccessible due to flooding. Treasure Cay is currently restored,
and should be completed Sunday night. An assessment is being
carried out in North Abaco, and the results will be
forthcoming. |

M.O. Works damage assessment teams are currently surveying roads

Major Mason has reported that Salvation Army will provide food
for work crews at NEMA. There are 2 operational shelters in
Nassau; Meadow Street (32 persons), Mackey Street (60 persons).

Army is currently fine with food supplies. Major Mason expressed
concern over the potential damage in Grand Bahama. He advised that
the Salvation Army would be seeking donations of water and food

Mrs. Glinton has advised that the BRC worked very closely with
the dept. of Social Services and Provided a crash training course
on shelter management for the. Providing shelter kits for all
shelters. Kits contain emergency supplies. Red Cross has been in
touch with all shelters. Some shelters were leaking and had to be
evacuated. Red Cross wants to ensure that all victims including
immigrant population would receive assistance. Any appeal for
assistance would have to be received within the next 24-48 hours.
Red Cross can provide plastic sheets, hygiene kits, blankets and
non-food items. Reps from the red cross would like to be part of
the assessment team. All material donated by the red cross has to
be give directly to the victims. BRC will work closely with NEMA
and Mrs. Glinton has noted that BRC would help with food donations
if necessary. Updates will be provided to NEMA. BRC supports
nominating the staging area at Bahamas International Airport. BRC
would like to be represented on the assessment teams. The
International Red Cross in Geneva is open to help the Bahamas.

Trying to make contact for current update at airport. 6 Dash-8’s
& 3 737’s presently parked on Apron #3 from Jamaica. A
portion of Tri-Con Building roof was blown off, extensive damage
at perimeter fence on Coral Harbour Rd. also Bahamasair, Sky
Unlimited, Executive Hanger have been damaged; eastern end of
Bahamasair administration & north end panel have been damaged,
Cat Island Air trailer & an aircraft in the area were
overturned. Air Canada departed with 87 passengers en route to
Canada. No changes at NIA. Received information that the
Saudi-Arabian flight will touch down at 9:00 pm on Apron #4.
Freeport airport will be open to special emergency flights only
between the hours of 9am – 6pm. There’s no power and the MEVA
is out of service, will have to bring in a specialist; it is
flooded. All is operational at NIA. Open to all flights,
maintenance are working to repair damages to tri-con building,
perimeter fence is repaired |

Tourism is attempting to get damage assessments from various
hotels and attractions in the various islands. Info on general
condition of the island will also be obtained. Tourism has
satellite phones and will distribute them to Abaco, Andros,
Eleuthera and Exuma tourism representatives. Tourism requests from
NEMA assistance in transporting satellite phones to tourism reps.
ACTION TAKEN: NEMA and Tourism have made arrangements for
the satellite phones to be delivered to the islands. Tourism
Command Center has moved to Hilton Tel. #302-2057 or 302-2017.
Nassau International Airport has re-opened and various have
flights have been confirmed for departure. Cleanup efforts on the
way at Grand Bahama airport and will be open for emergency use on
Monday, 6, September 2004. Large superficial damage to Nassau
hotels, Atlantis is open and will not close for recovery, Wyndam
Resorts water damage to 30 rooms, Crystal Palace Casino is fully
operational, Nassau Beach Hotel had minimal damage, there is water
damage as well as landscape damage at Radisson Resort, minor roof
and landscape damage to British Colonial it is open and running
normally. San Salvador is being assessed, but there has been major
structural damage to Club Med & Riding Rock Inn resorts, both
resorts evacuated guests before the storm. Grand Bahama resorts
are in recovery, Our Lucaya, Pelican Bay, Viva Fortuna, Old Bahama
Bay; Taino Beach Resort & Zanadu Resort had evacuated guests.
Mr. Sawyer from Ministry of Tourism made arrangements with the
Sealink (Bahamas Fast Ferries) through Harvey Sweeting to make
humanitarian efforts to Grand Bahama within the next 48 hours.

Tropical Air Recon left Nassau this morning to check weather
conditions. In Marsh Harbour from air view no severe structural
damage was visible, an estimated 2 feet of water covered the
airport ground and other land mast; surrounding inhabited cays
revealed the same condition. In North Eleuthera no extensive
structural damage was observed, Governor’s Harbour Airport was
serviceable. Both airports in Cat Island was observed to be
operational. The airports in San Salvador and Rum Cay were
observed to be operational and useable, very little water was seen
on the ground. All is in order in Deadman’s Cay, Long Island.
All islands mentioned including the Exuma Chains and New
Providence did not sustain excessive structural damage, however
response to and recovery efforts should be dedicated mostly to
flooding and water damage. |
