Former President of Costa Rica calls on The Prime Minister

Dr. Miguel Angel Rodriguez Echeverria, the former President of The Republic of Costa Rica and Candidate for Secretary General of the Organization of American States, accompanied by Ambassador Designate Dr. Walter Niehaus, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Costa Rica to the Organization of American States, at Washington D.C. and  Mr. Robert Jagger, Honorary Consul General, Costa Rica called on the Honourable Perry G. Christie, M.P., Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. 

The visit with the Honourable Prime Minister was to discuss matters related to his bid for the post of Secretary General of the OAS during the election that will take place at the XXXIV Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States in Quito, Ecuador, in June 2004. 

Such areas as democracy, human rights, trade issues with special emphasis on small economies, the fight against poverty, hemispheric security, cooperation, as well as management and administrative topics, were discussed. 

He also called on Mr. Philip Miller,  Acting Permanent Secretary  and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East Hill Street.  

Dr. Miguel Angel Rodriguez Echeverria was President of Costa Rica from 1998 to 2002.  He is presently Visiting Professor at the Elliott School of International Affairs in the prestigious George Washington University, Washington D.C.
