ESTABLISHMENT
OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS
AND THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE December
31, 2004 The Joint Communiqué, which was
also signed on behalf of Singapore by H.E. Mr. K.V. Vanu Gopala
Menon, Ambassador/Permanent
Representative of Singapore to the United Nations, states that the
Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Government
of Singapore, desirous of strengthening the existing friendly
relations between their governments and peoples; and promoting and
intensifying their cooperation, in the political, economic, social
and cultural fields in accordance with the principles of
international cooperation reflected in the United Nations Charter;
have decided to establish diplomatic relations at the
Ambassadorial level with effect from 16 December 2004. The Bahamas and
Singapore have a long history of very close cooperation in
organisations such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, and
the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The
establishment of formal relations with Singapore is a part of the
Bahamas Government’s long-term foreign policy of fostering
closer partnerships with like-minded countries in all corners of
the globe. The Bahamas looks forward to continued close collaboration
with Singapore, not only on a bilateral basis, but also in the
United Nations and other multilateral arena. 16th December 2004,
