NEW CHINA CELEBRATES 55 YEARS

 October 1, 2004 

On Thursday, 30 September, 2004, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Jiao Dongcun, hosted a reception at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort and Spa, on Cable Beach to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. 

Distinguished guests at the reception included Her Excellency Dame Ivy Dumont, Governor-General of The Bahamas; Mr. Reginald Dumont; the Right Honourable Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister of The Bahamas; Honourable Vincent Peet, Minister of Labour and Immigration and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service; and Honourable Allyson Maynard-Gibson, Minister of Financial Services and Investments. 

The entertainment for the evening was provided by the Government High School Orchestra, which was the recipient several years ago of a donation of musical instruments by the Chinese Embassy . 

Toasts were raised by Ambassador Jiao, Dame Ivy and Minister Peet.
