Bahamas Named Vice Chair On Security At OAS

           Foreign Minister Fred Mitchell has been named First Vice Chairman of the Organization of American States (OAS) Ministerial Conference on Security, currently taking place in Mexico City, Mexico.

The Minister heads a Bahamian delegation comprising the OAS Ambassador for The Bahamas Joshua Sears and Commodore Davey Rolle, head of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force. 

“We are the unanimous choice of our fellow Caribbean Countries for the post,” said Minister Mitchell, “and especially because of this, the post is significant for The Bahamas.

“Part of the thrust of our strategy in foreign relations is to project The Bahamas proudly on the regional and world stages in the pursuit of our national and regional goals,” said the Minister. 

“This post of Vice Chair and other important regional and international posts currently being carried by several of my Cabinet colleagues are an appropriate and integral part of the country’s work in Foreign Affairs.”

The meeting in Mexico is being attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs from throughout the western hemisphere and was mandated at the Summit of Americas called by Heads of Government in Quebec, Canada.
