The Ministry of Foreign Affairs met with officials of the US Embassy in The Bahamas,
yesterday, 15th September,  2003, to formally request a US Government review of the
decision that closed pre-clearance facilities at Nassau and Grand Bahama International
Airports in advance of Hurricane Isabel .

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman noted that separate initiatives are also being
undertaken directly with Washington to initiate a review of the matter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman said that an urgent review of the situation
“would be prudent” now that the track of Hurricane Isabel appears to be other than
was first believed.

In the meantime, the Ministry continues to advise Bahamians that the pre-clearance
facilities remain closed and that they should be in possession of a valid US visa before
attempting travel to the United States from Nassau and Freeport.

The Ministry has also been advised by the US authorities in Nassau that they will deal
with visa requests during this period on an expedited basis.
