$50K FROM CHINA FOR HURRICANE RELIEF

December 7, 2005

The Government of The People’s Republic of China has given $50,000 to the Government of The Bahamas to aid in recovery efforts following Hurricane Wilma.  During a short meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister on Monday, 5th December, Chinese Ambassador His Excellency Li Yuanming and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell signed documents making the gift official.  Ambassador Li said the gift was a symbol of the Chinese Government’s desire to work closely with the Bahamas Government and reflected that nation’s concern for those Bahamians affected by the hurricane.  Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie thanked Ambassador Li and the Chinese government for their generosity.  The Ambassador also announced that he would be returning to Beijing next week for a short trip over the holidays and presented Prime Minister Christie with a box of green tea from China as a parting gift.  Prime Minister Christie is shown accepting the cheque from Ambassador Li.
